This blog is a collection of my (quasi) daily thoughts. I'm Rachel - a 26 year old working in NYC as a web designer & developer for a social networking company. I’ve been told that: I read like a monster, I’m an indiscernable music liker and my red velvet cupcakes are awesome. Also, I’m addicted to bags.

top 10 tv shows

14 December 2009

So no comments or suggestions on my top 10 lists idea but it’s okay – I’m still going ahead with it! It’s also important to note that my “top” choices aren’t necessarily the most critically-acclaimed or even the best.. just merely my personal favorites. That said, here are my top 10 shows from the past decade (in no particular order):

  1. Gilmore Girls (2000-2007)
Who didn’t wish their mom was a little (or a lot) like Lorelai Gilmore? Plus I loved their mother-daughter relationship, Rory’s love for books and yes, I also loved Jess Mariano.
  2. Lost (2004-present)
I don’t even think I can put into words how awesome this show is. There aren’t many shows that can constantly change it up and surprise its audience every season like this one can.
  3. Joan of Arcadia (2003-2005)
To me this show was really different, especially in the way it dealt with religion (unlike the over-the-top cheesiness of 7th Heaven). The story lines as well as Joan’s conversations with God were so moving.
  4. House M.D. (2004-present)
I just love Gregory House. I love that he’s intelligent, outspoken to the point of meanness and can play the piano.
  5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003)
I’m sorry but this show – this is how you do the vampire story and get it right. Buffy is the kickass heroine. And Angel? Still the sexiest vampire in my book. They even have a werewolf who’s pretty adorable in his own right – Oz :)
  6. Veronica Mars (2004-2007)
Season 1 was definitely the best and I was pretty hooked from the first episode. I liked the female detective angle, Veronica’s prickly nature and of course, her eventual relationship with Logan Echolls.
  7. Bones (2005-present)
Great mix of nerdy science, humor and drama. Also, who doesn’t wait for the day that Booth and Bones finally get together? The chemistry between the cast members is what makes this show work so well.
  8. Everwood (2002-2006)
Just an amazing show about family and growing up – Treat Williams was perfect as the father, love love loved Gregory Smith as Ephram Brown. Again, everyone was extremely well cast.
  9. Felicity (1998-2002)
I admit, I wasn’t on board with this show at first. A girl follows a boy to college? Pfft. But then once I actually watched and they toned down Felicity’s stalker tendencies, I fell in love with the show.. and Ben Covington.
  10. Psych (2006-present)
It’s just a really fun show. The “mysteries” are interesting but even more so, it’s how Shawn and Gus put the clues together that it make it worth watching. You can’t watch an episode without laughing.

Honorable mentions: Gossip Girl, Grey’s Anatomy, Prison Break.

1 list down and 18 days until New Year’s.. more to come soon!
