This blog is a collection of my (quasi) daily thoughts. I'm Rachel - a 26 year old working in NYC as a web designer & developer for a social networking company. I’ve been told that: I read like a monster, I’m an indiscernable music liker and my red velvet cupcakes are awesome. Also, I’m addicted to bags.

top 10 movies

17 December 2009

My next top 10 list!

Usual disclaimer: My “top” choices are based on what my favorite movies happen to be. Which ones I’ve watched over and over during this last decade and a few that just stood out. They are also arranged in no particular order. So without further ado .. here are my top 10 favorite movies:

  1. Before Sunset (2004)
Hands down, my favoritest movie ever! I love the concept of following these two people in real-time and basically listening in on their conversation. You really feel like you’re there with them. Everything is so natural and genuine. I relate to so much of what Celine says. Yes, I could go on and on about this movie so I’ll stop here :)
  2. Harry Potter series (2001-??)
This is one of the few, if not only, movie adaptation of a book that hasn’t been disappointing. And even when they do leave things out, it still captures the book so well on a visual level. It’s just like I imagined it.
  3. Almost Famous (2000)
For anyone that loves music, you must watch this. One of my favorite scenes (in any movie) is still the moment when everyone is sitting in the bus and slowly starts singing “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John together.
  4. Dark Knight (2008)
I’m pretty this movie is on everyone’s list. Heath Ledger’s portrayal of Joker was just unforgettable.
  5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Such great and different roles for Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey. They each really bring them to life and the story itself is told in such an unusual way.
  6. Gladiator (2000)
This is one of those movies where every time it’s on TV, I have to watch. The scenery and cinematography are beautiful and Russell Crowe was perfect in this role.
  7. Love Me If You Dare / Jeux d’enfants (2003)
The chemistry between the two main leads (as children and adults) is amazing! It’s a very original movie, with an extremely vague ending that’s left open to interpretation. I’m still not sure what it meant but I love it anyway!
  8. Once (2006)
Another movie for music lovers. It’s really inspirational in that it makes you want to pick up a guitar (or piano) and write music after you’ve watched it. Amazing soundtrack too.
  9. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 1&2 (2005 / 2008)
Lots of sentimental value attached to this one – theedorks and I refer to it as “our” movie. The friendship and strong bond between the four girls really shines through (and this is something not often portrayed in movies or TV).
  10. Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
This movie really does live up to the hype surrounding it. The story is told in a wonderful way, you just get swept up in it. And I love the ending sequence.

2 lists down, 8 days until Christmas (!!) and 15 until New Year’s!
