This blog is a collection of my (quasi) daily thoughts. I'm Rachel - a 26 year old working in NYC as a web designer & developer for a social networking company. I’ve been told that: I read like a monster, I’m an indiscernable music liker and my red velvet cupcakes are awesome. Also, I’m addicted to bags.

top 10 albums

21 December 2009

This list was probably the hardest to come up with thus far. Too many of my favorite albums are pre-2000 (Weezer’s Blue Album, Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Tragic Kingdom..) but this is about the last decade! So, I did my best and I’m sure I’ll want to edit this entry later with new and/or different albums. But here’s what I got for now.. my favorite albums from the last decade (in no particular order):

Photo from “Morning View”, Incubus

  1. Radiohead – In Rainbows (2007)
I’m probably the only person not listing Kid A but for me, this was the album that I played over and over from beginning to end. Even as I’m writing this, the opening lyrics of “House of Cards” are coming to mind. I don’t wanna be your friend, I just want to be your lover..
  2. Paramore – All We Know Is Falling (2005)
This album reminds of the first time I heard them live and how I couldn’t stop playing their music during the weeks (months) that followed.
  3. Incubus – Morning View (2001)
Even though I have almost all their albums, this was the one that really turned me into a fan. I love Brandon Boyd :)
  4. Nelly Furtado – Whoa, Nelly! (2000)
There’s just something about this album. Can’t explain it but it needed to be on this list.
  5. Lenny Kravitz – Greatest Hits (2000)
I’m usually not a greatest hits kind of gal but this really does include his standout songs (in my humble opinion) and all my favorites.
  6. Hot Hot Heat – Elevator (2005)
This was the start of my indie music phase and I haven’t looked back since. Still my fave album of theirs.
  7. Red Hot Chili Peppers – By the Way (2002)
I was pretty late to the RHCP fandom by starting off with this album. But I’ve been a fan ever since.
  8. Sara Bareilles – Little Voice (2007)
Amazing voice, amazing lyrics, amazing pianist. This had to be included on here.
  9. Kings of Leon – Only by the Night (2008)
An extremely popular album and with good reason. Even though “Use Somebody” is probably played out from the radio now, it truly is a great album.
  10. The xx – xx (2009)
This one just makes the list since it only came out a few months ago but I fell in love with this band’s sound immediately. It’s hard to describe which is part of the appeal for me.

3 lists down, 4 days until Christmas (!!) and 11 until New Year’s!
