saturday night dinners

9 November 2009

I don’t know if we’re busier (or lazier) during the summer but my cousins and I cook a lot less on Saturday nights. But now that it’s Fall and closely approaching Winter (!!), we’ve been cooking almost every weekend. We’ve been trying out some new recipes that have quickly become favorites but we’ve kind of hit a slump. We keep going back to the faves! And we can’t seem to think of anything else we’d like to try.

Here are our staple recipes if you’re the mood to try something new:

  1. Sloppy Joe Sandwiches – It’s funny because we all disliked these in grammar school but we love this recipe now. I must admit that we got the idea to try this from Schnipper’s – thanks for making us reminisce about our cafeteria days :)
  2. Taqueria Style Tacos – We’re big on Mexican food so we had to make tacos eventually. This recipe is a nice departure from what we usually get at Taco Bell.
  3. Spinach Artichoke Dip – Every time I go out to eat at a restaurant and they’re serving this, I have to order it. Now I can make it whenever I want! And it’s really easy to make.
  4. Sukhothai Pad Thai – This was probably the first non-baking recipe I tried. Initially, I would make it using pre-made pad thai sauce but making it from scratch is so much better. Some of the ingredients for this recipe can be hard to find but it’s definitely worth it!
  5. Mac and Cheese – The three of us have a long history of mac and cheese dinners; since we were little kids. And while I still do love a box of Kraft mac and cheese, I prefer this recipe. It requires more ingredients and a few more steps but honestly, it’s just as easy to make.

Anyone else enjoy cooking as much as we do? If so, please send some recommendations my way via the comments.

o0o0o…. i <3 cooking!

i’ve never had sloppy joes before – loose ground meat kinda freaks me, so perhaps that’s why…

i make my own burrito bowls (like from chipotle) – it’s sort of semi-home made, but it works pretty well though. I make my own black beans and corn salsa.

i’ve been on this bruschetta kick too – i know you don’t like tomatoes, but it’s really good – even my brother eats it, and he hates raw tomatoes.

let me know if you want some make-shift recipes :P

@loren – oOo i’m loving the burrito bowl idea! i will definitely take you up on that. i’m willing to try bruschetta too, i don’t mind tomatoes as much if it’s mixed in with other stuff haha. i know we keep saying this, but we really need to do a cooking/baking night one of these days!
