This blog is a collection of my (quasi) daily thoughts. I'm Rachel - a 26 year old working in NYC as a web designer & developer for a social networking company. I’ve been told that: I read like a monster, I’m an indiscernable music liker and my red velvet cupcakes are awesome. Also, I’m addicted to bags.

pink for october

1 October 2009

WITHOUTWORDS.NET is going PINK FOR OCTOBER. (See banner on top right corner of browser.)

Web sites will Go Pink during the month of October to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, get people talking about breast cancer, and raise money for research. But to be clear, raising money isn’t the primary purpose of this web event. The hope is that you turn your site pink (in whatever way works for your site), educate yourself about the multiple issues related to Breast Cancer, then take that knowledge and tell someone else what you’ve learned.

I think it’s great that there are all these different mediums – Internet, commercial, music – and each one strives to contribute in some way, shape or form to raise awareness as well as money towards research. While I’ve never been closely affected by breast cancer, my heart and sympathy goes out to all the people who have and if turning my site pink for a month or adding a simple banner will help to remind people or encourage them to be knowledgeable, then I am happy and proud to be a part of this website movement.

If you have a website or even a Twitter account, go Pink for October!
