This blog is a collection of my (quasi) daily thoughts. I'm Rachel - a 26 year old working in NYC as a web designer & developer for a social networking company. music roundup III

28 October 2009

I haven’t done one of these in a while! It seemed fitting since I bought two new albums yesterday (both featured below). I used to think that buying music off of iTunes wouldn’t be the same as the “real thing” aka cds. But you know, I’m starting to change my mind. I get my songs immediately & from the comfort of my own home, I can preview songs before purchasing and I don’t need to figure out a space in my room for all the cds I’ve accumulated. Hm, I wonder if I’ll ever feel that way about books and dvds..? But I digress. Anyway, here are the three albums I currently have on rotation:

swell seasonStrict Joy
Swell Season
Since watching Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová in the movie “Once”, I’ve been a huge fan. I love his voice and the musical chemistry between them. So I was happy to find out that they also made music together off screen. So, as someone who’s already a fan, this second album doesn’t disappoint.
Standout tracks: Low Rising, In These Arms, The Rain

the xxxx
The xx
I don’t even remember how I stumbled across their music but ever since I heard “Islands” about a month ago and downloaded their album soon after that, I’ve been listening to it constantly. If you’re looking for something different to listen to, I would give this a shot.
Standout tracks: Islands, VCR, Basic Space

mozellaBelle Isle
MoZella
I first heard her music on One Tree Hill (yeah yeah, stop laughing), randomly downloaded a new song over the summer and now an album later, I must say that I’m a fan. I’m not quite sure how to describe her music but she somewhat reminds me of an upbeat version of Duffy.
Standout tracks: Stay, Hurry Up & Choose, More of You

Enjoy! And as always, feel free to suggest new music :)

I have had less time to look into new music lately. However, last weekend I bought “Fantasies” by Metric (a Canadian band). It’s amazing!
