This blog is a collection of my (quasi) daily thoughts. I'm Rachel - a 26 year old working in NYC as a web designer & developer for a social networking company. I’ve been told that: I read like a monster, I’m an indiscernable music liker and my red velvet cupcakes are awesome. Also, I’m addicted to bags.

music roundup I

12 August 2009

I’ve been trying to think of things that I can write about on a regular or semi-regular basis. There’s movie reviews but I don’t watch new movies all the time (except maybe recently). There’s my book reviews but that seems to be working out as a monthly thing. Then I thought about music – I listen to music practically all day, every day on the bus and while at work. Plus I’m always on the lookout for new bands and songs – I think I can manage to give you guys a glimpse into whatever band, album or song I’m currently listening to. And hopefully, as a result, get new suggestions in return.

So, for today’s music roundup, here are the three albums I’ve been listening to nonstop:

incubusMonuments & Melodies
Incubus
Incubus is one of my favoritest bands ever and with good reason. This 2-part album consists of their greatest hits on the first disc and rare songs, B-sides, alternate versions and previously unreleased tracks on the other.
Standout tracks: “A Certain Shade of Green (Acoustic)”, “Monuments and Melodies,” and “Let’s Go Crazy” (Prince cover).

alfa second skinSecond Skin
Alfa
I’ve been waiting forever for this girl to release a full LP (I’ve been downloading songs for a couple years now). She’s a really talented singer-songwriter-musician and her first full-length album doesn’t disappoint.
Standout tracks: “Supergirl,” “Love As Tragedy: A Play In 3 Acts,” and “Second Skin”.

500 days(500) Days of Summer Soundtrack
Various Artists
One – if you haven’t seen the movie, you should. Two – I guarantee that after seeing said movie, you will want to immediately download this soundtrack. It’s that good. Especially if you like music of the indie variety.
Standout tracks: “Sweet Disposition” (The Temper Trap), “Mushaboom” (Feist), and “Here Comes Your Man” (Meaghan Smith).

Hope you guys enjoyed the first of many more music roundups to come (I’m thinking every or every other Wednesday?). Suggestions and comments are welcome as always :)

Love, love, love (500) Days of Summer Soundtrack. I hope Joe Gordon records “Here Comes Your Man”. I think I like his version the best (or maybe because I have a huge crush on him =P). I just read somewhere that The Swell Season is coming out with a new album in October – hope it’s good!!
