I completely forgot to do my weekly music entry last week but I guess that’s what happens when you’re on vacation. But now it’s back to the daily grind and back to remembering things. So, I love cover songs – provided that they’re good and do the original justice. But also, hearing covers of songs that you didn’t realize were covers at the time can introduce you to some really great music. Paramore managed to do both (for me at least!) with the two covers they did recently.
Paramore – Use Somebody (Kings of Leon)
Off in the night while you live it up / I’m off to sleep / waging war to shake the poet and the beat
I love, love, love this song. I played the original on repeat when I first heard it and I still do at times. But ever since I heard this, I’ve been listening to it nonstop. There’s just something really haunting and beautiful about this song. Plus both singers have such great voices.
Here’s the original by Kings of Leon:
Paramore – Long Distance Call (Phoenix)
Long time no see, long time no say / Got little to tell, I don’t say much but I might / Something always told me us two would be serious / I am looking around town, thinking the same as you / I’m far gone but your long distance call and your capital letters keep me asking for more
In this case I had never heard of Phoenix (a French alternative rock band) but after hearing the cover, I checked out the original. And while I love Paramore’s cover, it’s Phoenix’s version that I can’t stop listening to. But again, I like both! This song just makes me want to dance in my seat (which I think I’ve been doing at work, hee).
Here’s the original by Phoenix:
Enjoy and let me know what you think of the songs :)

Great cover by Paramore! Not sure if you were able to download any other songs of KOL from their other album, if not, check out: True Love Way and Ragoo. Two of my faves!
